In the Val Resia Valley people speak an ancient Slavic dialect called "Resian dialect". This is why most of the local people want this dialect to be recognised as a minority language.

Though not granted minority language status yet, the Resian dialect is nevertheless protected by the regional legislation of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia autonomous region.
